Ok, we know if you're under 18 and into rock right now you'll hang around at Urbis, but in the old days apart from Piccadilly Gardens where did the punks used to hang around in Manchester City Centre?

Before that though it was Piccadilly Gardens. When I was about 15 we used to go and watch City and then come back into town and get passing students to buy us booze then decant it into Um Bongo cartons (I dunno why it was always Um Bongo) and sit and get wasted down there in the sunken garden and then the old punks would all come up from Hulme and hang around there presumably til the clubs opened or whatever, and sometimes we'd have a chat to them, and one day my mum happened to be in town after a shopping trip and caught me talking to them and I got a right bollocking. I always wanted bright red hair even then...
